Garfield County commissioners are Dean Burton, Wynne McCabe and Robert Johnson. With all present Tuesday commissioners:

  • LIBRARY: Learned the library ramp is complete. Decided to advertise lumber left over from the project.


  • BUILDING INSPECTOR: Decided to hire Stan Warren as building inspector at $17 an hour. Unanimous.

  • PUGET SOUND: Learned Bonneville Power access road is complete for the Lower Snake River Wind Project. Puget Sound Energy representative Jay Takemura told commissioners they plan to start the building permit process this week.


  • HAY BIDS: Reviewed bids on 12 acres of hay at the fairgrounds. Bidders were Jim and Tracy Ledgerwood, $77 per ton; Mike Hastings, $40.50 per ton; and Gary Slaybaugh, $85 per ton. The bid was awarded to Slaybaugh.

  • DEFENSE: Signed contract with Gary Carpenter as indigent defense attorney for $1,863 per month, an increase of $75 over last year's amount.

  • COURT: Approved paying $3,047 as Garfield County's share of the Superior Court administrator position. Columbia County's share is $7,713, and Asotin County's, $19,465. Unanimous.

  • SHERIFF: Accepted the Garfield County Democratic Central Committee's recommendation that Bennie W. Keller be appointed as sheriff until the certification of the general election. Unanimous.

  • BOARD: Appointed Claudia Spacek to the Human Services advisory board. Unanimous.

  • DATES: Set regular meeting dates for July 19, Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Unanimous.

  • DISABILITY: Approved contract with Myrna Bartels to perform services in the developmental disability grant program for $880 per month. Unanimous.
