Milton-Freewater Blazers sweep Goldendale Wednesday

The Blazers came back from a 7-1 deficit to win the opener and a 3-0 hole to win the nightcap.

MILTON-FREEWATER - Patrick Sheets' bases-loaded triple ignited a six-run second inning and jump-started the Milton-Freewater Blazers to a doubleheader sweep of Goldendale here Wednesday night in Senior Babe Ruth baseball play at McRae-Ireland Field.

The Blazers were trailing 7-1 going to the bottom of the second in the opener. But they bunched five of their 11 hits in the inning and Goldendale contributed an error, allowing M-F to knot the score at 7-7.

Jacob Partney then relieved starting M-F pitcher Lupito Salazar in the third and allowed just one run over the next three frames. Partney left with a 10-8 lead in favor of Jake Knight, who yielded one run in two innings and the Blazers came away with a 12-9 victory.

Similarly, M-F found itself in a 3-0 hole after one inning in the second game. But the Blazers discovered their offense in the later innings and defeated the visitors 8-5 to improve to 14-19 on the season.

The same two teams square off this afternoon in a 3 p.m. twin bill in Goldendale. The Blazers return home Friday for a single nine-inning affair against The Dalles beginning at 4 p.m., then spend the weekend at the Baker City Wood Bat Classic.

Sheets had a first-inning single in addition to his three-run triple in Wednesday's opener, then contributed two more hits in the nightcap, each of them driving in a run.
