CLARKSTON - Kobe Morris' single to right field chased home Kenneth Rooks with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning here Thursday night as Walla Walla Pacific overcame Asotin County 9-8 in the championship game of the District 5 Little League 9-10 age division baseball tournament.
Pacific now moves on to play in the state tournament that begins July 17 in Shoreline.
The Walla Wallans, who outhit Asotin County 13-8, built a 5-0 lead after two innings. But they needed to push across a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning to forge a 6-6 tie and ultimately send the game into extra innings.
Devon Oliver got the fifth-inning rally started with a single, although he was erased at second base on a fielder's choice that enabled Jack Weigand to reach first base safely. Shea Kimball then walked and both runners advanced a base on a passed ball before Weigand scampered home on a throwing error.
The host team regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh without the benefit of a hit. A walk, two errors and a passed ball helped put Pacific in a two-run hole.
But the Walla Wallans would not be denied.
Weigand led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and Josh Bergevin followed with a double that put Pacific runners on second and third. Rooks singled both runners home to tie the game at 8-8, and he advanced to second on a late throw to the plate. Morris then followed with his game-winning hit.
"That's when the party began," Pacific manager Nate Ferraro said.
Taylor Hamada had three hits in the game for Pacific and Oliver and Ben Ortiz added two hits each.
