State trip for Milton-Freewater 9-10 softball team

BAKER CITY, Ore. - Milton-Freewater's 9-10 age-division Little League softball team is headed for the Oregon state tournament in Hood River after sweeping to the district championship here over the 4th of July weekend.

The M-F team opened district play last Friday with an 18-0 victory over host Baker City and followed up on Saturday with a 21-0- conquest of Triangle, the Athena-Weston-Adams representative.

In the tournament's semifinals, Milton-Freewater toppled La Grande 11-1 on Sunday and then downed Pilot Rock 8-0 in Tuesday's championship game.

Members of the team are Mallory Copeland, Kaitlyn Slusarenko, Racheal Lyon, Alexxus Shelton, Micha Fortune, Faith Kelly, Tabitha Heckman, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Natalie Neal, Madison Nauta, Rebecca Jones, Tara Hodgen and McKenna Yensen. Kelly Hahn is the team's manager and Steve Copeland and L.G. Bullock serves as coaches.

The state tournament begins today in Hood River.
