Donald (Don) F. Schuetze, a resident of Regency at the Park, passed away, Monday, July 5, 2010, at the age of 85. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 20, 2010, at Assumption Catholic Church, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

Don was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Paxico, Kan., to Lawrence and Marie Schuetze. He graduated from Paxico High School. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. After graduation from the Naval Hospital Corps School, and served as a navy Pharmacist mate until his discharge on March 15, 1946. On Oct. 15, 1949, Don married Mary T. Roth of Paxico, Kan. They moved to Walla Walla so he could take a job working for the Walla Walla Corps of Engineers as a driving instructor. After a couple of years, they moved to California where he worked building airplanes for Northrup Aircraft, for approximately 19 years. He then moved his family back to Walla Walla, where he owned and operated a DuraClean carpet cleaning business. He later managed Mr. C's Pizza in Yakima until his retirement.

He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed photography, fishing, cooking and gardening in particular. He spent a lot of time in his greenhouse, starting plants and vegetables from seed. His grandkids always said he made the best cookies ever.

He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, and the Eagles, where he moved up through all the offices.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Schuetze of College Place; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Gianetto, Redmond, Wash; daughter, Deborah Grange, Poulsbo, Wash, Cynthia Bartlett, Walla Walla; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sue Schuetze, Prosser; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Wayne Zier, Walla Walla; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Laurie Schuetze, Wasilla, AK; sister, Laurine Hutley, Corvalis, Ore; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Kay Schuetze, Iowa, and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Adell Schuetze, Tucson, Ariz. Fourteen grandchildren, Lori, Gina, Scott, Brian, Stacee, Mike, Lisa, Clynt, Kendal, Kyle, Matt, Stephanie, Jeremiah and Lyndsey; nine great-grandchidlren, Harper, Brighton, Sebastian, Hope, Toby, Marie, Addison, Dalyn and Elliott; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Orville Schuetze, Silvan Schuetze and Gerald Schuetze.
