WALLA WALLA -- A teenage gang member ordered to stand trial as an adult had his first appearance Monday.

Ricky Palomino, 17, of 258 Willard St., appeared before Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge Donald Schacht. He is charged with residential burglary, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of delivering cocaine and one count of delivering marijuana.

Schacht set bail at $75,000 and assigned local attorney James Barrett to represent him. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

At a hearing last week, Judge John Lorhmann ruled in favor of a request by prosecutors to have Palomino tried as an adult instead of keeping his case in juvenile court.

The attorney who represented Palomino at the hearing, Irving Rosenberg, said he intends to appeal Lohrmann's ruling.

According to documents filed in court, Palomino has nine prior convictions and has served two terms in state juvenile institutions. The latest charges stem from two separate incidents, the first being a drug investigation and the second a March 9 police chase involving Palomino.
