MILTON-FREEWATER -- A vacant rental property was destroyed by fire over the weekend, officials said.

The city's Fire Department responded to a fire at a duplex in the 100 block of Northeast Sixth Avenue about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, said Fire Chief Shane Garner this morning.

The fire burned in the second story of the duplex, with both units not being rented at the time, thus resulting in no injuries. The fire burned until about 4:45 a.m., and crews remained until about 8 a.m. conducting clean-up. Garner said the fire destroyed the entire second floor of the complex.

Garner said fire is being investigated by the state's Office of Fire Marshal.
