Three Walla Walla golfers head to WJGA state tournament

SOAP LAKE - One local golfer was district champion in her age bracket, joining two others as state qualifiers in the Washington Junior Golf Association district four tournament.

Emily Baumgart shot a 92 at the par-71 Lakeview Golf and Country Club here Tuesday, besting her only opponent in the girls 12-13 age group by five strokes on the day and 15 in the two-day tournament.

Joing Baumgart in the state trip is Jake Hanson, who finished eighth in the boys 16-17 category, carding 78 at Lakeview and 151 overall. Emily's brother Ryan Baumgart also shot a 78 and 154 overall, good for third place in the boys 14-15 division.

Walla Walla's final golfer, Jessica Hunstman, shot a 105 on the day and 200 overall. Huntsman did not qualify for state in the girls 14-15 age bracket.

The state championship is at Everett Golf and Country Club and Lynnwood's Legion Memorial Golf Course July 28-30.
