KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Former Wa-Hi football star Peter Sirmon has been hired by the University of Tennessee as a graduate assistant for the Volunteers this upcoming season.
Sirmon, who served in a similar capacity at the University of Oregon in 2009 and as Central Washington University's linebackers' coach two seasons ago, will join former UO standout and Boise State defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox on first-year head coach Derek Dooley's staff.
Sirmon, 34, was named Washington Defensive Player of the Year by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer after leading the Blue Devils to the 1994 Class AAA state championship game, which Wa-Hi lost to South Kitsap, 15-10.
After lettering for four years at the University of Oregon, Sirmon was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans. He retired in 2006 after a seven-year career.
