What's Going Up?

Extensive rennovation work continues at Rogers Bakery in College Place after a February 16, 2010 fire forced the closure of the establishment. Thursday, July 8, 2010

What: Rogers Bakery, 116 N. College Ave., College Place, rebuilding from a fire in February.

Owners Kelli and Lenny Leen expect to be open again in September

"It's a slow process, but we're seeing progress," Kelli Leen said. "We've got the roof trusses completely replaced. There's a ripple effect."

The fire was in the roof, but they've had to replace more than that.

"We've replaced walls, when they took the roof off, glass broke. We've taken out cabinets and everything with smoke damage. Now we have an ADA, new restroom, lots bigger than what we had before. We have new floors, new tables. We're planning a grand reopening around the time the University starts."

She's hoping to be able to retain most of her employees. Several have continued their employment with major cleaning and repainting of equipment not damaged in the fire.
