Three local golfers playing at WJGA state tourney

EVERETT - Walla Walla's Jake Hanson shot a 77 in the boys 16-17 division on the first day of the Washington Junior Golf Association's state championship Wednesday.

Hanson was nine shots off Ilwaco's Patrick Whealdon's first-round 68. The division moves from Legion Memorial Golf Course to Everett Golf and Country Country Club for the second round today.

Ryan Baumgart, in the boys 14-15 division, shot a 79 at Everett, and will play today at Legion. A trio of golfers lead the division at 70.

And Emily Baumgart, in the girls 12-13 division, shot a 92 at Lynnwood Wednesday, trailing Marianne Li of Bellevue by 22 strokes into today's round, also at Lynnwood.

The top four girls in Baumgart's division advance to Friday's final round, and the top 18 or 19 in the boys divisions move on. The final round is at Everett.
