Jennifer Jorgenson, who's been writing stories under her byline for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin as an intern, will also take on news editor duties for the weekly Collegian newspaper at Walla Walla University during the academic year that starts this fall.
A junior mass communication major at WWU, Jennifer will choose stories relevant to WWU students both locally and nationally. The Collegian is fully staffed by students. Bill Lenz is this year's editor-in-chief. Twenty writers and section, layout and copy editors have been hired to staff the publication.
Aaron Ricci is the other news editor. Four staff writers will work with her, going out on assignments and writing the articles. After submission by the staff writers, the articles go to Bill and the copy editors for approval and Jennifer and Aaron will make the final changes, develop headlines, and see the stories through layout and publishing.
The first issue by the new staff came out on May 27.
Jennifer's degree concentration is in journalism with a minor in film studies. She is enjoying her work as a U-B reporter. She hopes to work in a newsroom when she graduates and has big dreams for where and when she wants to be published.
"I love to write, I love to work with the staff of The Collegian and the Union-Bulletin and I'm excited for where my writing will take me. I applied for the news editor position because I want people to have as much fun reading the news as I do. My goal is to make news fun, informative and to the point."
Sarah Wostenberg of Walla Walla graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., with a bachelor's in Spanish. The college's annual commencement exercises were May 15 in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium on the Atchison campus.
