Norman Ray Rogers born on Oct. 26, 1937 in Walla Walla. He died on May 23, 2010,in Shoreline, Wash., he was 72. He was born severely disabled with Cerebral Palsy.
His parents, with other parents with Spastic children in Walla Walla, organized to get a special school for handicapped children, as back then public schools didn't teach the handicapped children. His dad Clarence, who was an elementary principal for many years, was the chairman of several Easter Seal campaigns. As Norman got older he was in several institutions. Then in 1984, he was mainstreamed. He had a caregiver and was able to go on his motorized chair all over Seattle. He attended Shoreline Community College and was very active there.
His urn will be buried next to his parents, June Clarence Rogers, in Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on June 5, 2010, at the Fairview Church in Seattle. Norman is survived by his sister, Miriam Brandt, Mesquite, Nev.; nephews Jason Brandt, Studio, Calif., and Todd Brandt, Hillsboro, Ore.; Lee Fitchett, Norman's 22 year retired caregiver friend, Seattle; uncle, Harold Rogers, Whittier, Calif.; aunt, Lena Rogers, Kennewick, aunt uncle, Helen and Lloyd Skramstad, Oklahoma City, Okla.; aunt, Virginia Edlund, Issaquah, Wash., and many cousins, etc.
