Repeat winners in the Onion Man Triathlon last weekend

WALLA WALLA - Michael Gordon of Walla Walla and Kara Nielsen of Kirkland, Wash., took first place for the second consecutive year for overall male and female in the Onion Man Triathlon on May 30 at Bennington Lake. This is the first time this has happened in the race's 17- year history.

Gordon came off the bike in fourth place and ran a PR 10K race in 34:14, finishing the race in 1:59:53. Nielsen's winning finish time was 2:17:09.

The first place team was made up of swimmer Kathy Farrell-Guizar and biker Neal Chavre, both from Walla Walla, and runner Levi Venn from Auburn, Wash., in 2:21:05.

A record of 230 individuals and 10 teams finished the 1.5K swim in the 57-degree lake, 40K bike ride and 10K run.
