Violet "Vi" M. Brown passed away June 1, 2010 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center from a sudden stroke.
Violetwas born in Walla WallaMay 10, 1922 to Conrad and Elizabeth (Litz) Salmeier. A liifelong resident of Walla Walla, she attended Paine School and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1940.
As a young adult, she worked at various downtown businesses including The (original) Beehive and Garden City Furniture. Shorly thereafter, she began working at the Army Corps of Engineers and in1955,she went to work at the Veterans Adminstration hospital as the voucher auditor until her retirement in 1985.
On June 7 1959, Violet married Larry H. Brown of Caldwell, ID. Together they raised three daughters. Larrypreceded her in deathDec 23, 1989.
Violet belonged to several civic groups including the Ladies AuxilaryFraternal Order of EaglesAerie #26, American Legion, and NARFE.
Since her retirement, she became an avid... and critical... Seattle Mariners fan. She also enjoyed playing bingo, phase 10 with her granddaughters, and working difficult crossword puzzles.
After selling her home of 40+ yrs, she moved to Eagle Meadows on Sept 16, 2006. She was phenomenally proud of her two granddaughters who will miss grandma.
She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Ruth Salmeier, brother Clarence Salmeier, Niece Becky Salmeier, Nephew Bill Brown, and longtime dear friends, Howard and Gladys Dodge.
She is survived by her daughters: Jo Anne (Craig) Adams, Roberta (Ben) Cavalli, all of Walla Walla, and Michelle (Keith) Lawson of Sikeston, MO.,Granddaughters:Heather Lawson of Sikeston, MO and Savannah Adams of Walla Walla. Also surviving are:Sister-In-LawLucille Salmeier,Niece Connie Jesperson and Nephew Conrad Salmeier, all of Portland OR, Stepdaughter Charlotte (Homi) Baraumond, of Alamo, CA, Stepson James (Sue) Avery of Sandpoint ID,
and very special friends, Glenn and Vicki Dodge of Monroe WA.
At her request, private graveside services were held June 5, 2010. Memorial donations can be made to the Blue Mnt. Humane Society.
