Pomeroy City Council members are Dennis Gillis, James Fuchs, Michael Akers, Stephanie Newberg and Donna Hunt. Mayor is Alan Gould. With Akers absent Tuesday the council:

  • VARIANCE: In accordance with recommendations from the planning and zoning commission voted to approve a variance requested by Dave Boyer. Unanimous.
  • NUISANCE: Attorney Matt Newberg offered to draft a nuisance ordinance to present at the July council meeting. He asked the city to list items for enforcement, such as junk cars, old appliances, weeds and overgrown yards and lots. He suggested the city begin a campaign to notify residents of the ordinance's contents and enforcement.


  • STREET CLOSURE: Agreed to close certain streets June 12 for the Tumbleweed Fun Run. Streets are Arlington to First, Pataha to Columbia and Columbia back to Arlington. Stephanie Newberg will coordinate the closures with the Sheriff's office.


  • PROJECTS UPDATE: Alesia Ruochert said Grant Morgan is making progress on Pioneer Plaza and is communicating with the funding office. Del Groat is working on the environmental impact study. Ruchert also said the Southeast Washington Economic Development Association needs assessment survey has been compiled and can be reviewed in her office.

  • POOL: Learned the pool opening was delayed from June 9 to June 15 due to weather.

  • PLAQUES: Learned historic district plaques are done and have been delivered to businesses. Lisa Baser and the high school Ag Mechanics class assembled the end pieces of the frames.

  • CELEBRATION: Learned Garfield County Hospital requested use of the main city park for the Fourth of July Community Celebration. The city will offer free swim and golf July 4.

  • APPOINTMENT: Confirmed the appointment of Lora Hahn to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Unanimous.

  • HEARING: Set July 6 as the date for the 6-year transportation plan hearing.

  • OVERAGE: Voted to relieve Dave Boyer's water overage in the amount of $149.80. Unanimous.
