The parking lot at Sears will be transformed this weekend into the site of an old-fashioned kiddie carnival.
The Rose Street department store will put on the fun-filled event as the feature attraction for its Family and Friends celebration.
From noon to 6 p.m. Sunday visitors can stop by for games, prizes, face-painting balloons and more, said store Manager Janet Holm. A representative from the Walla Walla Sweets baseball team will drop by to talk about the team and answer questions.
Shaved ice, hot dogs and Coke products will be available for sale. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Heroes at Home Program.
Coldwell Banker First Realtors of Walla Walla was recognized with its company's Monthly National Award for April, said Megan Eaton, marketing coordinator for the Main Street office.
The local real estate firm ranked 10 out of 406 affiliate offices if its size category, which is 21 to 35 sales associates.
In the announcement, Eaton said the recognition distinguishes the local office as an example of dedication and performance.
A couple of local residents have hit the jackpot with mega prize giveaways from area auto dealerships.
Carol Sanders of Walla Walla walked away from O'Brien Motors' Super Sale auto event at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds as a $20,000 cash winner, according to an announcement from the Dalles Military Road auto dealership.
Sanders apparently dropped by the event with an invitation flyer she'd received. The number on the flyer matched the $20,000 grand prize. The sweepstakes event promised a winner every time. Other recipients qualified for $100, $200, $300, $400 or $500 amounts. Everyone who brought in their flyer walked away with at least $5.
And if you think no one will ever be lucky enough to leave a dealership with a car, think again. Local resident Todd Hoel held the winning ticket for a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue during Legacy's Ford's recent auto sales event across from the College Place Wal-Mart. The winning ticket apparently came just at the right time. Hoel's vehicle had stopped working before that. The Walla Walla Community College grad will head to Portland State University this fall with his wife of 10 years, Kara, and 2-year-old daughter with new wheels.
