WALLA WALLA - About 500 people participated in the 13th annual Relay for Life this weekend at Borleske Stadium's Martin Field, raising close to $70,000 for cancer research.

The annual event turns the field into a makeshift campground, as participants perform a 22-hour relay event.

This year, close to 120 cancer survivors took part in the opening ceremonies, which included the first lap around the field, and about 40 sponsor teams were also formed, event coordinators said.
