If Bluewood was not able to open it would have a significant impact on our local economy, and could be disastrous for Dayton's businesses during the winter season. There are many businesses that depend on money from snow enthusiasts, aside from the ski area itself and ski shops.
Any food, gas or lodging business along the U.S. Highway 12 would be severely impacted by Bluewood's closing. I urge the city of Dayton, Columbia County and the Umatilla National Forest to do all they can to keep Bluewood operating.
I would like to see a county or city purchase Ski Bluewood and turn it into a non-profit ski area like Eaglecrest, Alaska, or Bogus Basin, Idaho.
Both these ski areas have been successful in providing their community with affordable winter recreation and job opportunities.
