WALLA WALLA -- Police have arrested a Walla Walla man for allegedly stabbing an acquaintance early Thursday morning.

Tylur D. Tiedemann, 18, of 213 W. Maple St., was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon at his home on investigation of first-degree assault.

In an interview with police, Tiedemann allegedly admitted using a broken beer bottle to stab Robert Lawson, 19, about 5:30 a.m. outside Lawson's residence in the 100 block of North Wilbur Avenue.

Lawson reportedly suffered two severe wounds -- including a severed artery -- to his left thigh and calf. He was treated at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, then released.

Tiedemann told officials he and Lawson "have problems" and the assault took place in front of Lawson's house after Tiedemann saw Lawson there, according to a police report presented at Tiedemann's first appearance in Superior Court this morning.

"Tiedemann stated he was sorry he had stabbed Lawson and appeared genuinely remorseful," the report says. "Tiedemann stated he was drunk at the time of the assault and that affected this judgment."

He is lodged in the County Jail, with bail set at $25,000.
