April 10, 1933 - June 15, 2010

Teodora M. Ocanaz, 523 Locust St., Walla Walla passed away at her home on June 15, 2010, at the age of 77 while in the presence of her family. Teodora lost her battle with pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed only one month prior. It was through her strength and determination that she was able to live a long and fulfilling life
with her family.

Teodora Martinez was born on April 10, 1933, in Raymondville, Texas, to Martin and Bridida Rodriguez Martinez. Teodora was married to Julian Ocanaz on Sept. 6, 1950, in Warden, Texas, where they made a life together until 1956, when they moved to Walla Walla. Teodora began working for a chore service assisting elderly individuals with daily chores. After a short time, Teodora became employed at D K Frozen Foods and retired after 10 years of service in 1995. Teodora enjoyed tending her rose garden, crocheting blankets for her family and watching her grandchildren play baseball/softball. Teodora had a great passion for gardening and enjoyed watching her many plants grow to beautiful lengths. Teodora and Julian Ocanaz were married almost 60 years at the time of her death. Teodora was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she knew and brightened the lives of many. Her quick wit, personality and sense of humor were among her greatest qualities. She could crack a smile from even the most serious person. She will be in the heart of her family and friends forever.

Teodora is survived by her husband, Julian Ocanaz of Walla Walla. She is also survived by seven children (four sons and three daughters), Luis and Debra Ocanaz, Manuel and Nelda Ocanaz, Domingo and Judy Ocanaz, Maria and Santos Garcia, Lupe Ocanaz and Ramon Ocanaz, all of Walla Walla, and Rosie and Rick McEvoy of Milton Freewater. She is also survived by her brother, Rodrigo and Anita Martinez of Pasco; and her sister, Felipa Tovar of Raymondville, Texas. Teodora also left behind 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Maria Banda, Christina Aguilar and Feliciana Olvera; and her brother, Jerry Martinez.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2010, from 1 p.m. until after the Rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. The Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the funeral home.
