I was pleased to read the article about Nicole Aichele's success in barrel racing but more that she realizes the importance of wearing an ASTM-SEI-approved riding helmet!
My girls have been involved in United States Pony Club, Inc., for over 13 years and wearing a helmet is the most important safety rule the organization does not skimp on.
I would recommend every 4-H Club leader purchase a video called, "Every Time, Every Ride" for parents and all riders to watch! It is a wonderful tool in making equestrian families aware of what could, would and should happen when not wearing this simple, lightweight piece of headgear. The video is sold through Amazon or the United States Pony Club, Inc. (uspc.org).
The interviews with riders who have succumbed to life-changing (or life-taken) head injuries from not wearing a helmet leaves you with a different respect for this incredible animal and sport we so many times take for granted!
Again, congratulations Nicole and you are appreciated for taking a vested interest in the most important organ of your health and happiness -- your precious brain!
