MILTON-FREEWATER - The Milton-Freewater Blazers split a doubleheader with La Grande here Monday.
The split moved them to 11-10 on the season, with two games to play Tuesday to get to the midway point in the season.
The Blazers won the first game, 5-4, but dropped the second, 2-0.
"I think (the first game) was a good effort on overall teamwork," said Blazers coach Mike Garcia. "We were working on getting the pitch count and getting the opposing pitcher to get up, and working to get some walks."
The Blazers scored their five runs on three hits. They had eight walks in the game, to LaGrande's two.
"We got a lot of walks and we were working the count," Garcia said. "That contributed a couple runs here and there."
The second game wasn't as smooth. It was 0-0 heading into the sixth, when LaGrande scored two on one big error.
"That was a costly error on our part, which ended up being a deciding factor in the game," Garcia said. "We were knotted up heading into the sixth."
Randy Romaro pitched through the sixth and was relieved by Kevin Cuellar after the two runs were scored.
LaGrande's pitcher kept the Blazers scoreless and limited them to one hit by Jacob Partney.
"Their pitcher did a great job, as well," Garcia said. "It shows with out one hit. We didn't get as many walks or as many on base, and it's really hard to score when there's no one on base."
The Blazers traveled to Baker City Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader. They host Ontario at 4 p.m. Thursday.
