WALLA WALLA - If there's one thing Scott Larsen would like to see at this year's 61st All-City Championships golf tournament at Veterans Memorial and the Walla Walla Country Club, it's more participants.

"If we could get it to 100 this year, that'd be great," Larsen said at a recent gathering with country club head pro Lisa Hyland and Veterans Memorial general manager Nick Manolopoulos.

Larsen, with Adams Golf, and Jeannie Balmer, with H&H Sports and Jewelry, stepped in as sponsors this year after several years of uncertainty the tournament would occur.

"We're really trying to get community backing on this," Larsen said.

Last year, 83 golfer participated, down from 88 the year before, Hyland said.

The All-City Championships drew 100-120 participants in its hey-day, the three golf organizers said.

And ladies are also invited to take part. Last year, 12 women filled out one flight at the tournament.

"We'd like to see more ladies' players," Hyland said. "It's be great to have 24."

To attract golfers to the tourney, the entry fee as remained at $75. Entry forms will be available at the country club, Vets Memorial and H&H Sports and Jewelry beginning July 1.

The tournament begins Aug. 14 at Vets Memorial, with a putting contest and long drive competition adding to the fun, Larsen said. The final round is at the country club on Aug. 15.
