WALLA WALLA -- A local man is accused of possessing child pornography earlier this week.
Adam C. Hopkins, 35, of 758 Edith Ave., was charged Thursday afternoon in Walla Walla County Superior Court with 10 counts of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The police investigation began Sunday after a family member attending a gathering at Hopkins' home allegedly discovered several photos of child pornography -- including pictures of girls younger than 3 years old -- stored on a media card from Hopkins' cell phone. Hopkins had given the card to the female relative to use in her phone.
She was surprised and showed other family members, who "saw several images of nude young females, to include one of a nude female sitting on the lap of an adult nude male," according to a police report filed in court.
The relatives left with the media card and turned it over to police.
Police served a search warrant at Hopkins' residence Wednesday, seized his cell phone and laptop computer, and in his bedroom discovered a white envelope containing "magazine cut outs and pictures of dozens of infants and small children, all nude," the police report says. Many of those images don't appear to be recent.
Hopkins reportedly gave conflicting statements during a later interview with a police detective and became physically uncooperative, according to officials. He was arrested and booked into the County Jail. Bail was set at $35,000.
Police are trying to determine if any of the children depicted in the pictures Hopkins allegedly possessed are from the local area.
