L. Maxine Shore

L. Maxine (Elliott) Shore, who lived in Vancouver since 1960, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010. She was 98 years old.

Maxine was an avid bowler. Her bowling average was 148 when she retired from bowling at the age of 93. Besides bowling, Maxine loved to garden, sew, and spend time with her family. She was a woman of strong faith, and believed in seeing the best in other people. Her kindness and friendliness won the hearts of her many friends.

Maxine was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Walla Walla. She graduated from Wa-High in 1928.

Maxine married R. Maurice "Morrie" Shore. They were happily married for 42 years. Morrie was the production manager for The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, in the 1960's and early 1970's during the switchover from black and white to color press.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Morrie; daughter Joann "Jo" Beckel; and sister Phyllis (Elliott) Jensen.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Chuck Beckel; two grandchildren, Shore Beckel and Julie Johnson; and five great-grandchildren, Laura, Robert, Paul, Heidi and Kirsten.

Graveside services will be on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery.
