Walla Walla Sweets end losing streak at seven games with win at Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - The Walla Walla Sweets managed to staunch a seven-game losing streak with a win here Monday night.

The Sweets defeated the Bellingham Bells, 5-2, despite four errors to Bellingham's one.

Bellingham opened it up, but the Sweets posted three in the second and Bellingham couldn't come back.

Bellingham pitcher Tyrell Poggemyer walked James Stanfield. Stanfield moved to third on a Christian Ramirez single, then Ramirez moved to second in a Josh Daniel single.

With bases loaded and one out, Matt Hart doubled, running Stanfield and Ramirez home.

Now 2-1, the Sweets scored once more, when Daniel came home on an error while Kevin Kuntz was at bat.

The Sweets posted two more runs, in the fourth and sixth, for a 5-1 lead.

Bellingham scored one more run in the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Hart doubled twice in the game, with three RBIs. Kevin Kuntz had two.

Jacob Kemmerer pitched the first seven innings for Walla Walla. He was relieved by Michael Richard in the eighth and Zach Clanton in the ninth.

The Sweets continue their roadtrip at Bellingham today and Wednesday. They host Moses Lake for a three-game series beginning Friday.

The Sweets are 5-11 on the season.
