WALLA WALLA -- An abandoned structure was consumed in a fire this weekend, authorities said.
The fire was reported about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Brock Street, according to the Walla Walla Fire Department.
Originally called in as a garage fire, the vacant building was about 500 square feet in size and did not have any gas or electricity connected, said Deputy Fire Chief Bob Yancey. He said the structure had been boarded up and was apparently slated to be knocked down.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire, and because no one was inside the building, there were no injuries.
Yancey said the property owner had filed permits to tear down the destroyed building. Because of the lack of gas or electricity, Yancey said it was unclear how the fire started, and no one in the neighborhood appears to have witnessed anything suspicious. No cost estimate was provided because of the condition of the structure.
