WALLA WALLA - A 31-year veteran of the Walla Walla Sheriff's Office, Capt. Bill White, announced Friday he is running for sheriff.

"It's one of those dreams you decide when you are younger. I always wanted to be sheriff, but I never thought I would get to this point," White said.

White officially announced his candidacy at a GOP dinner Friday night; he added he is a fiscal conservative and prefers the Republican Party.

"I have never done this. I am not a politician. I am a cop. In my own way, I am going to have to get out there and let people know who I am and that I have been there as long as I have and that I have the qualifications for the office," he said.

White is the second person to announce his candidacy. Last month, John A. Turner announced he would run for the position now held by Sheriff Mike Humphreys, who announce last month that he would not seek re-election.
