WALLA WALLA - A 52-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbing a hotel, authorities said.
Gary L. Stevens, a transient, was booked into Walla Walla County Jail on first-degree robbery.
Walla Walla Police Detectives believe Stevens walked into the Hampton Inn lobby Saturday night with a gun, and demanded money from the clerk. Stevens allegedly left the business with a small amount of cash and was last seen walking on foot toward Dalles Military Road.
Stevens had apparently come to the attention of officers early Sunday as they searched the grounds of the Veterans Administration and Fort Walla Walla. On Monday, officers returned to Fort Walla Walla, where they found Stevens.
Stevens was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant out of Shelton, Wash., according to a news release. While being questioned at the police department, Stevens reportedly made incriminating statements about his involvement in the robbery, according to the release.
A gun believed to have been used in the robbery was recovered prior to Stevens' arrest, according to the release.
