WALLA WALLA -- A Walla Walla High School administrator has been named assistant principal of Garrison Middle School.

Brett Cox, assistant principal at Wa-Hi, will take over the assistant principal position at Garrison left vacant by Josh Wolcott. Wolcott was recently named principal of Edison Elementary School to replace retiring principal Nancy Withycombe.

Cox leaves Wa-Hi after four years as assistant principal. Before moving to Walla Walla, Cox worked as assistant principal of Oakland Bay Junior High in Shelton, Wash. Cox also previously taught material science and residential construction in the Bethel School District.

"I look forward to bringing my eight years of administrative experience back to the middle school as this is where I started my administrative career," Cox said in a statement. "I enjoy working with this age group of students and my Spanish speaking skills will be another asset I bring to the school."

Cox and Wolcott will assume their new duties at the start of the 2010-11 school year.

The moves are part of an administrative reorganization plan within the district meant to cut costs in anticipation of expected cuts to state public education funding.
