Indians pitch past Patriots in baseball opener

RICHLAND - Touchet's Tuff Goble pitched a 4-3 complete-game prep baseball victory over Liberty Christian to open the season here Tuesday.

Goble fanned 10 batters and walked three in the seven innings' work.

"Tuff pitched a good game," Touchet coach Wayne Dickey said. "He's been throwing since December, so he's ready for the season,"

Marshall Byerley, who slugged a one-out triple and scored on a passed ball in the first inning, led the Indians with two hits.

With runs in the first, third and fourth innings, Touchet led 3-0 midway through the fourth inning.

The Patriots, however, tied the game at 3-3 with a three-run rally in the bottom of the frame.

In the sixth, Touchet's Eric Hines drew a walk, stole second and raced home on a Patriots' error for what proved to be the game-wining run.

"It was nice to win the opener," Dickey said. "But we still have a lot of work to do."

Nathan Taylor had two hits for the Patriots.

The Indians play Weston-McEwen in a non-conference single game at Touchet on Thursday, with a 3:30 p.m. start.
