WAITSBURG - The Weston-McEwen TigerScots held on to an early lead for the 4-3 baseball win at Waitsburg-Prescott Tuesday.
"This was our first game and I was pleased with the way we executed defensive plays," said Weston-McEwen coach T.J. Haguewood. "Our practice over the last few weeks showed - the kids saw how important it was."
The TigerScots had a 3-0 lead when Waitsburg-Prescott tied it up in the sixth inning. By the seventh, Weston-McEwen went on a scoring streak on RBIs by Dallas Reich and Jared Bond to pull ahead. Two of the TigerScots' hits were unearned.
"We did have three errors, but I was pretty pleased with us defensively," Haguewood said. "We can work those out of our system."
Although Waitsburg-Prescott had the bases loaded in the sixth, pitcher Matt McGill struck them out to seal the win for the TigerScots.
"I was pleased with the way the guys competed," Haguewood said. "It's good to get a win off the first game."
Weston-McEwen plays at Touchet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
