WALLA WALLA -- A third-grade student at Assumption Grade School is the winner of the 2010 Balloon Stampede children's design contest.

Alvaro Campos learned his design was the winning entry while he was eating lunch Wednesday at school. As part of the award, Campos and his classmates were treated to a presentation by Judy McDole on the history of hot air-ballooning. The children got a chance to answer questions and earn T-shirts from past years as prizes.

Each child also received a chocolate balloon from Bright's Candies, according to a release.

The 2010 Balloon Stampede memorabilia will be unveiled at the Business Expo & Home Show this weekend at the Walla Walla Community College Dietrich Dome. The memorabilia can be bought starting Monday at the Chamber of Commerce office.
