Curves fitness facilities are in the midst of a food drive for local families.

Through the end of the month, the local Curves operations will be collecting nonperishable items and monetary donations. Those who give may have a chance to receive an award of their own. The clubs are offering incentives for members and nonmembers to participate. According to an announcement from Curves founder Diane Heavin, members who donate a bag or groceries or make a donation of at least $30 during the month of March will receive a reusable Curves grocery freezer bag. Nonmembers who do the same through March 20 can join Curves for free. The various Curves operations will also participate in a companywide contest for the most food drive donations collected among the locations throughout the country. Winners will receive cash prizes to be donated to their local food banks.

"At the core of our business is the message that women are stronger when they rally together, and that is the point we hope to bring home with our food drive," Heavin said in the announcement. "We want to show our communities just how powerful the generosity of our members can be."

The local Curves operations - in Walla Walla at 2200 Melrose St., and College Place at 110 N. College Ave. - are owned by Lora Edelman. For more details, call 522-7888 or 522-8626.
