TOUCHET - A two-out, seventh-inning walk-off RBI single by Touchet starting pitcher Kelsey Cardwell gave the Touchet Indians a 6-5 victory over the Weston-McEwen TigerScots in a non-league baseball game here Thursday afternoon.

Cardwell also pitched six innings and struck out nine TigerScot batters.

"Kelsey did a pretty good job pitching," Touchet coach Wayne Dickey said. "He kept us in the game. We had a few errors that they capitalizied on early, but Kelsey hung in there and battled. Freshman Jose Martinez - the lefty has good control and pitched a solid seventh inning for us."

Drew Greenwalt gave the TigerScots an early lead with a towering two-run home run to left field in the first inning.

Besides the two-run home run in the first, the TigerScots scored three in the fifth inning.

W-M starter Elliot Salter pitched into the fourth, was relieved by Nick Lively, and Greenwalt came in from left field to take over on the mound in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.

In the seventh, Lively hit Touchet's Martinez before getting two big outs while the Indians' pinch runner, Eddy Contreras, made his way around the bases to score on two wild pitches and a passed ball.

Walks by Travis Fowler and Nate Ortiz were followed by an infield single by Cory Ochoa to load Touchet's bases. Jake Hodnefield followed with a line shot between shortstop and third base to pick up an RBI and keep the line moving.

Indians catcher Marshall Byerley hit a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double deep to left field over the outfielder's head before Cardwell's game-winner.

"We didn't do much hitting early," Dickey said. "But I was proud of the way that we came back. We all battled. Marshall and Kelsey had two really big hits.

"Weston-McEwen has a very good ball club," he said. "They are very solid and they really swing the bats well."

The win improves the Indians to 2-0, on the season. They play at Dayton at 4 p.m. Monday.
