Man arrested in hit-and-run of pedestrian

WALLA WALLA - A 19-year-old Walla Walla man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of striking a 19-year-old woman with his vehicle.

David Marquez, of 1115 Pine St., was booked into Walla Walla County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault and hit-and-run unattended, following a collision in the 1400 block of South Second Avenue reported about 2:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police believe Marquez used his vehicle to strike *Johana Castillo, 19, of North Wilbur Avenue. Castillo was reportedly found lying on the street, unconscious, and was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman said this morning no information was available on such a patient.

According to a report by the Walla Walla Police Department, an argument started between several people who had attended a house party in the area. During the night, while several people stood outside the residence, others drove by in vehicles. One man may have struck one of the vehicles with his fist, likely breaking a mirror, according to the report. Another vehicle reportedly sped up outside the home, and struck Castillo, who was among the people standing outside.

Castillo was reportedly struck with the center of the vehicle, which forced her up and over the vehicle to land on her head, according to the report. A witness told police the vehicle appeared to be traveling about 30 mph.

* Victim had been incorrectly identified as Joanna Samson, 24, in a previous version of the story.
