Longtime Milton-Freewater resident, William A. "Bill" Heskett, Sr., died March 6, 2010, at Evergreen Milton-Freewater Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The oldest of five children, Bill was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Enterprise, to William F. and Dorothy A. McCormack Heskett. He grew up in Wallowa County. On June 6, 1954, he and Sally S. Wright were married in Lostine, Ore. Together they raised three children, divorcing after 19 years. Bill worked as a logger before moving to Milton-Freewater, where he began his career of more than 40 years working for John Rea Trucking as a long-haul truck driver. He married Lora Carolyn Woods Loebsack on July 3, 1975, and together they raised one daughter, divorcing after seven years. He lived in Portland, during this period of time. Bill returned to the Milton-Freewater area in 1982.

He loved reading westerns and watching John Wayne movies.

Bill is survived by his previous wives, Sally Heskett of Milton-Freewater and Carol Clark of Portland; two daughters, Kathy Bull (Ken) of Kennewick and Angela Langway of Beaverton; two sons, Allen Heskett and Hap Heskett, both of Milton-Freewater; three sisters, Twyla Harmon of Sandy, Ore., Tammy Heskett of Happy Valley, Ore., and Betty Jo Gehring of Beavercreek, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Kenny, Tim and Jennifer Bull, David, Miranda and Lucas Langway and James Allen Sandberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Melva Wheeler; and his companion, Louise Waldo.
