ASOTIN - Dayton came back from huge deficits in both games to open Southeast 2B league girls softball action against Asotin here Saturday.
The Bulldogs trailed 8-1 after three innings in the opener before responding to pull out a 12-10 win.
The Panthers scored six runs in the first inning of the nightcap and grabbed a 6-1 lead. Dayton responded with an eight-run second and went on to pound out 12 hits and earn a 22-13 win to complete the sweep.
"We struggled in both first innings," Bulldog assistant coach Desirae Jones said. "We got more selective at bat and fought back. We never gave up."
Sam Harting was called to the circle in both games before the Bulldogs could get out of the first inning. Harting held the Panthers off to collect both pitching victories.
Harting and Madeline Jensen led the Bulldog offensive comeback in the opener. Harting collected three hits and Jensen had four hits to drive in four runs.
Megan Howell ripped a home run for the Panthers, but it wasn't enough as Dayton used a seven-run sixth to get back within striking distance down 10-9 after six. The Bulldogs plated three in the top of the seventh to pull out the win.
Dayton could not stay away from the big inning to open the second game. The Panthers plated six first-inning runs and again Harting was summoned to put out the fire. Harting allowed two more big innings - a three-run second and a four-run fifth - but blanked the Panthers over the last two innings.
Harting ripped three hits, to give her six on the day, to spark the Bulldog comeback. Nicole Lambert blasted a Bulldog home run.
Katlyn Varney added three hits to the Bulldog 12-hit attack, Ilse Carrera collected two, and Nicole Lockard drove in three runs.
