Deadline extended for Walla Walla County Planning Commission opening

WALLA WALLA - A deadline has been extended to April 16 for applicants to fill a vacancy on the Walla Walla County Planning Commission.

To balance representation on the commission, applicants from within the District 2 county commission area are being sought. Information on commission district boundaries is available on the county Web site, along with the application form and questionnaire that must be completed.

The Planning Commission is a seven-member body that typically meets on the first Wednesday of each month, although other special meetings are held occasionally.

Planning commissioners conduct public hearings and formulate recommendations to the county commissioners on a variety of land-use policy issues and development codes. Members are asked to serve four-year terms.

The county Community Development Department staff will assist whoever is appointed to become familiar with the county's planning history, code, policy and public processes before he or she takes a seat on the commission.

Information is available at 524-2505 or from the commissioners' office at the county Public Health and Legislative Building, 314 W. Main St.
