ATHENA - Weston-McEwen returned to the diamond after its spring break here Saturday in boys non-conference baseball action.

The TigerScots showed some rust in committing 14 errors in the doubleheader, and Waitsbug-Prescott, which goes to spring break next week, pounded out 16 hits and scored 22 runs in sweeping the double bill.

W-P won the first game, 11-4, and came back to complete the sweep with an 11-6 game-two win.

"It was our first game back from spring break and we weren't ready to play," TigerScot coach T.J. Haguewood said. "We had been playing pretty good baseball and making the routine plays. We didn't do that today. In that first game, we had eight walks, a hit batsman, and nine errors. It's hard to overcome 18 extra baserunners."

"We swung it real well, which is something we've been lacking," W-P coach Dustin Snedigar said. "We made some adjustments and focused on hitting fundamentals (last week in practice), and it paid off today. We played good defense and got good pitching. It was a well-rounded day and fun to watch the kids relax and just play."

Dalton Estes and Joe Purdin combined to toss a five-hitter to spark W-P's first-game win.

Purdin's four hits led the W-P offense as seven different hitters had at least one hit for W-P.

The TigerScots scored three runs in the home third to close the gap to 4-3, but W-P scored seven unanswered to pull away for the first-game victory.

Nick Lively led the TigerScot offense with three hits.

The TigerScots kept game two interesting as W-P raced to a 9-3 lead heading to the home fourth. The TigerScots rallied for three runs, but got no closer.

Zach Bartlow led the W-P offense with three hits. Aaron Speed and Dallas Reich each collected two hits for W-M.

The wins break a losing streak for W-P, and W-P returns to league play Saturday at Prescott as it hosts Asotin for a noon doubleheader.

W-M hosts the Pendleton Frosh Monday.

"We will break out of our little slump," Haguewood said. "Our guys will be working hard to get back, but we have to play much better to be successful."
