PILOT ROCK - The error bug got Weston-McEwen in the opener of a Special District Five softball double header here Saturday.
The Pilot Rock bats took care of the second game as the Rockets swept the twin bill, winning 2-0 and 18-3.
Hayley Freske took the circle in the opener for the TigerScots and pitched a three-hitter. She did not allow an earned run, but was undone in the fifth.
With two outs in the fifth, the Rockets took advantage of three consecutive TigerScot errors.
Two infield errors put two Rockets on base, a Pilot Rock hit was misplayed and both Rockets scored to produce a 2-0 Pilot Rock lead. That was all Renae Mulcare needed in the Rockets' circle, as she stopped W-M on three hits and the Rockets took a 2-0 win.
"We came up short in one inning," TigerScot coach Jeff Griggs said. "Hayley did her job in the circle. We just didn't give her the support.
"We only had three runners against Mulcare," Griggs continued. "She didn't blow it by us, but got us to hit it in the right spots."
Morgan Entze, Claire Ely, and Joshlynn Kilgore collected the TigerScot hits.
The TigerScots chose to save Freske in the second game, believing they'll meet the Rockets in the post season.
"Pilot Rock is secure in second," Griggs said. "We're in third and would play them in the first round. We felt the less they see of Hayley, the better."
The Rockets erupted for nine second-inning runs and the night cap was never in doubt.
Entze had three hits to lead the TigerScots, and Freske and Rilei Hill each had two for W-M.
The TigerScots, 3-7, 8-11, host Umatilla Tuesday.
