WALLA WALLA - DeSales swept a pair of Southeast 2B softball counters against Liberty Christian here Saturday on strong back-to-back standout pitching performances by Ashlyn Lyons and Amanda Warnick.

Lyons tossed a two-hitter in the 6-1 opener, while Warnick threw a 3-hit shutout in the 11-0 capper.

Lyons struck out seven in seven innings. Warnick whiffed nine in six.

The Irish offense opened immediately in game one, with a 3-spot in the first. The Irish scored on three singles and a trio of Keystone Cops errors by the visitors. A passed ball on a third strike to Ali Zander pushed across the third run. The strikeout should have ended the inning.

DeSales tacked on two more runs in the third on a Janelle Hartford double and two more Patriot errors. Back-to-back doubles by Hartford and Lyons plated the final run for the Irish in the fifth inning.

Meanwhile, Lyons stunned the Patriots on the mound. The eighth-grader faced one batter above the minimum through four innings of no-hit ball.

The Patriots broke up the no-no in the top of the fifth, as third baseman Sarah Jackson led off with a single. Mikayla Williams knocked Jackson home three batters later with LC's only other hit of the game.

The Irish weren't able to jump on Patriot pitcher Amanda Koopman quite as quickly in game two. Koopman struck out two in the first and nearly had the Irish down in order in the second before Alex Buley singled home Ali Zander for the first Irish run.

Three more Irish crossed the plate in the third-the big blow coming on a Lyons RBI double.

DeSales opened the floodgates in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits and two errors.

Lyons ended it by mercy-rule in the sixth with a two-run double to the gap in right center field.

Irish pitcher Warnick allowed just two balls out of the infield during her game two three-hitter.

The Irish senior had one K through two innings, but got on a roll after one out in the third.

Warnick struck out eight of the next 11 LC batters, striking out the sides in both the fourth and fifth innings.

"I thought it was a great game for me," Warnick said. "My changeup was really working today. I'm glad I came back well after (my last outing at) Touchet."

"Amanda had a tough time against Touchet," DeSales coach Russ Vera said of his senior hurler. "But she came out and had nine strikeouts today. She pitched great for her last home game.

"Ashlyn (Lyons) pitched real well. She's pitched the last four games well. She's 7-1 now," Vera said on his game one starter.

The Irish improve to 10-0 in league, 10-4 overall.
