ATHENA - Weston-McEwen secured the No. 3 seed into next Saturday's district playoffs here Saturday in girls softball action.
The TigerScots, behind Hayley Freske's work in the circle, swept Stanfield-Echo 3-0 and 7-1.
Freske struck out nine in posting a three-hit shutout in the opener. Freske came back with an 11-strikeout, complete game performance in the nightcap.
"She was commanding on the day," TigerScot coach Jeff Griggs said. "We were slow to get our offense going, but we drew quite a few walks. We finally got Hayley some run support which was good as she deserved those two wins."
Joshlyn Kilgore's fourth-inning RBI double broke up a scoreless duel in the opener. Rilei Hill's run-scoring triple highlighted a two-run fifth.
W-M improved to 5-7 in league, 12-11 overall.
The TigerScots face league No. 2 seed Pilot Rock at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pendleton. A win sends W-M into a seeding match with league champion Irrigon for the No. 1. A loss drops it into a loser-out battle with the survivor of the battle between the league's No. 4 and No. 5.
"We haven't beaten them (Pilot Rock) yet," Griggs said. "If we bring our bats, we have a chance."
