SPOKANE - The Wa-Hi boys golf team prepared for next Monday's District tournament by finishing tied for seventh at the 25-team Inland Empire tourney at Spokane Country Club here Monday.

Drew Reinland shot a 77 to lead the Blue Devils, five strokes off medalist Riley Hayfield of Kamiakin.

Jake Hanson's 79, Dean Atkinson's 83 and Travis Morrison's 88 combined with Reinland's score as Wa-Hi tied with Southridge for seventh in the team standings with 327 points.

Coeur d'Alene won the team competition with 309 points, followed by Mount Spokane at 312.

"The high (team) scores were probably because the greens were so, so fast," Wa-Hi coach Jim Smith said. "I saw very few putts made on 9, unless they were within a foot. I saw two, three, four, even a six (putts on the hole). The greens were really the great equalizer."

The District tournament is at Wenatchee's Three Lakes and Highlander courses Monday.

The Blue Devils will head to Wenatchee Sunday and play a practice round at Highlander.

Of the 57 players expected at district, 11 will advance to the state tournament March 25-26 at Canyon Lakes in Pasco.
