Aug. 21, 1921 - Nov. 28, 2009
Graveside service for Dorothy Lucille (Brown) Kostechka will be held May 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Waitsburg Cemetery with her great-nephew, the Rev. John Bret Moser, presiding.
Lucille passed away Nov. 28, 2009, in Olympia, from complications of stroke and heart disease.
She was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Boardman, Ore., to Glenn and Daisy (Villars) Brown on the family homestead. At age 3, her family moved by horse-pulled farm wagons to her grandfather's ranch on Coppei Creek outside of Waitsburg.
After graduating from eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse, she worked for room and board in Waitsburg and completed high school there. In early 1943, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps and was sworn in at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. while it was still under construction. After honorable discharge in November 1945, Lucille moved to Oregon and married Walter Kostechka in 1947. She was a member of the VFW in Waitsburg.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Walter; siblings, Jim Brown, Bob Brown, and Doris Wagoner. Siblings, Frank Brown, Bill Brown and Elena Perry of Walla Walla; and three children survive Lucille.
For those who would like to make a donation in Lucille's memory, the family suggests the VFW Post #721 in Waitsburg.
