LA GRANDE - DeSales dropped a non-league softball game to La Grande, 5-4, here Tuesday.
"It was a real good ball game," said DeSales coach Ken Cox.
The Irish were down two heading into the top of the seventh, but managed to score the tying runs.
Matt Wujek doubled and stole third, Kyle Lindgren singled to bring him home, and then Travis Haen singled to bring Lindgren home.
But La Grande reached base on errors in the bottom of the seventh, and the Tigers' Cody Madson hit a deep double, scoring the runner late in the game.
Wujek had a good day from the mound, throwing four innings, Cox said. He also hit a single and a double.
Pat Richard had two hits.
"Going into this weekend, we need to get a little more production from bottom of lineup," Cox said. "But I think the guys have come a long way. We get to play in regionals next weekend, so we're going to keep continuing to improve."
DeSales is the league champion and 17-3 overall. The Irish head into districts this weekend, playing Astin for the No. 1 seed to regionals at 1 p.m. Saturday. The loser of that game plays for the No. 2 or No. 3 seed at 4 p.m. against the winner of a 10 a.m. game between Waitsburg-Prescott and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia. All games are at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla.
