PENDLETON - The season ended for most of the Mac-Hi golf team at Wildhorse Resort here Tuesday.

The Pioneers finished the district championship with a combined two-day score of 945, good for fourth place in the Greater Oregon League, and most of the team heads off the course for the season.

But senior Matt Hair carded a 99 on day one, 102 day two and a combined 201 to qualify for the state tournament in Eugene next week.

Will Riley (112-110-222), Angel Palacios (128-125-253), Brandon Ferroni (137-132-269) and Allison Varady (117-118-235) are done for the season.

"My goal of improving individual scores by at least 10 strokes wasn't brought to fruition today, but as I've said all season long, this is our growing year," said Mac-Hi golf coach Elizabeth Ellis.

Allison Varady, the team's only girl, is a junior.

"Thankfully, she can come back next year and bring her A-game to the course, and finally qualify for the state tournament," Ellis said.

La Grande's Taylor Mutch was the medalist, carding 81-79-160.
