Pomeroy ends season with pair of losses at Garfield-Palouse

GARFIELD - Pomeroy ended its softball season with a pair of losses to Garfield-Palouse here Tuesday, 7-4 and 23-9.

"Our pitcher (HayLee Kohler) had the flu and still pitched reasonably well in game one," Pomeroy coach Rob Monahan said.

The Pirates trailed 3-2 in the sixth inning before errors caught up to them.

"We had a critical error with two outs, they scored four and put it away," Monahan said.

Delaney Monahan did have a two-run home run in the seventh inning to pull the Pirates closer.

Gar-Pal plated 12 runs in the second inning and 10 more in the third to put the nightcap out of reach early.

"The bottom line, we walked too many and had too many errors, but they hit the ball hard," Monahan said. "It was one of those games where they hit ground balls real hard that got through, and a line drive to the gap turns into a grand slam."

Pomeroy finishes the season 4-13, and losses just two seniors to graduation, Jessica Tetrick and Stephanie Tewalt.

"We're young, and we made too many errors (this season)," Monahan said.
