PENDLETON -- The Pendleton Center for the Arts is calling all photographers to participate in this year's Open Regional photography exhibit and vie for more than $1,000 in cash prizes. Entries must be delivered to the Arts Center, 214 North Main St., on Saturday.
The Open Regional exhibit is a community event that's been held for more than 25 years, celebrating the work of both professional and amateur artists. 2010 is one of the alternate years when photography is the focus.
The event is open to all amateur and professional photographers age 18 and older living in Eastern Oregon and Southeastern Washington. There is a teen category for artists 13 - 17 years old. Work must have been completed in the last five years and not previously exhibited in an Open Regional exhibit.
Artists may enter up to two works of photography. Both film and digital photographs will be accepted. Artists may use traditional darkroom techniques or computer software to alter images, provided that original photography is the primary focus of the artwork.
Prize money will be awarded by this year's judge, Charly Bloomquist. Bloomquist has taught photography at Whitman College since 1994 and at Walla Walla Community College from 1995 to 2007. He has exhibited in New York, California, Washington and in Managua, Nicaragua.
The exhibit will open May 20 with a judge's critique and award ceremony at 5 p.m. and an opening reception from 5:30-7 p.m. Both events are free and open to the general public. The exhibit runs through June 18.
Entry forms and full instructions are available at the Arts Center or can be printed from pendletonarts.org. For more information, call the center at 541-278-9201.
